How I Made $14,563.08 in November with Amazon KDP
November 2024 was a record-breaking month for my Amazon KDP business. It’s been a long journey of learning, experimenting, and growing, and I’m excited to share all the details with you.
I earned a total of $14,563.08 in royalties from Amazon KDP. This is the most I’ve ever made in a single month, and it feels like a huge milestone. My journey started with much smaller numbers, so reaching this level has been a dream come true.
My best day was on November 30th, when I earned $806.83 in a single day. On the flip side, my lowest day was on November 1st, when I made $160.48.
Even though there’s a big gap between these numbers, it shows how earnings can fluctuate. By the end of the month, I had sold a total of 4,069 books, which is a personal record.
On average, I earned $3.57 per book. This is slightly lower than what I made per book in October, but I’ll explain why later.
How This Compares to November 2023
Looking back at November 2023, I earned $4,983.37 that month.
This means my earnings more than tripled in one year!
In November 2023, my highest-earning day was November 28th, when I made $273, and my lowest day was November 5th, when I made $54.48.
One big difference between then and now is how I price and market my books. In 2023, my books were priced lower, and I was still figuring out how to optimise my ads.
Now, I focus on creating higher-quality books and setting prices that reflect their value. This strategy has helped me earn more while selling fewer books overall compared to last year.
Challenges Faced in November 2024
While November was a fantastic month, it wasn’t without challenges. One of the biggest issues I faced was VAT (Value Added Tax) in the UK market.
This tax adds 20% to the price of certain books, making them more expensive for buyers, whilst you still receive the same amount of royalties.
The frustrating part is that not all books are affected equally. For example, Amazon classified some of my low-content books as subject to the full 20% VAT, while other books had a reduced VAT rate of 8%.
After contacting Amazon and pushing back, I managed to get some of my books reclassified, which lowered the VAT to 8%.
If you’re a KDP publisher, I recommend checking if your books are impacted by VAT and contacting Amazon if you think they’ve been misclassified.
Expenses
Ads played a major role in my success this month. I spent $4033.11 on Amazon ads, which brought in $13,238.66 in sales.
While this might seem like a lot of money to spend, the return was worth it. My ACOS (Advertising Cost of Sales) was 30.8%, which is a reasonable percentage as I continue to refine my campaigns.
Running ads is not always easy, especially in the beginning. In October 2024, I had a higher ACOS because I was testing new ad strategies, which is normal when you’re experimenting.
By November, I had adjusted my ads and saw much better results. Ads require patience and consistent monitoring, but they are a great way to grow your KDP business over time.
Expenses and Net Profit
Although I earned $14,563.08 in royalties, not all of that is profit. Here’s how the numbers break down:
Gross earnings: $14,563.08
Advertising costs: $4033.11
Other expenses (software and tools): $100
After subtracting these expenses, my net profit for November 2024 was $10,429.97.
Hitting a five-figure profit in one month feels incredible, and I’m grateful for how much this business has grown.
Key Lessons from My Journey
This year has been all about refining my strategies and focusing on quality. Here are some of the most important lessons I’ve learned:
Create High-Quality Books
The quality of your books matters. Readers are willing to pay more for well-designed, valuable content, so don’t settle for low prices.Use Ads Wisely
Ads can feel expensive at first, but they’re worth the investment if you monitor and adjust them regularly. Start small, learn what works, and scale up gradually.Adapt to Challenges
Whether it’s VAT or fluctuating sales, challenges will come up. The key is to stay calm, adapt, and focus on what you can control.
Looking Ahead
As I move into December and beyond, my goal is to continue building on this momentum. December is another strong month for sales due to the holiday season, and I’m excited to see how my books perform.
